The Belgian Bankers’ and Stockbroking Firms’ Association (ABB-BVB) is the result of a merger between the Belgian Bankers’ Association (ABB-BVB, created in 1936) and the Belgian Association of Stock Exchange Members (BASEM, created in 1995). Since January 1, 2005, ABB-BVB has been acting as a trade association for the banks and stockbroking firms established in Belgium.
The four major tasks of ABB-BVB are:
- defending the interests of banks and stockbroking firms and representing them towards public authorities at the European and federal level as well as the level of the Regions and Communities, the public at large, the trade unions, etc.;
- offering a meeting place for an open dialogue and exchange of ideas between professionals;
- providing services to its members in the fields of information, advice and professional training;
- promoting the image of a socially responsible sector, by fostering the publication of concrete rules of conduct among other things.
ABB-BVB is a member of the European Banking Federation (EBF), the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB), the International Chamber of Commerce and BusinessEurope. The Association is actively involved in the activities of the Belgian Financial Forum, CEC/UCV (Clearing Transaction Exchange Centre), SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) and the Mediation Service Banks-Credit- Investments.
